Art on the Met was a series of posters published inside 200 trams and as A2 posters behind perspex at 200 railways stations around Melbourne for six months. The project was sponsored by Yellow Pages, the Public Transport Corporation and the Australia Council so artists were paid.
It was the first project in Australia to formally present fine art and poetry on public transport and followed on from "Moving Words" which presented 150 Melbourne poems on 150 trams for 12 months in 1993.
Both projects were conceived, designed and produced by the Ideas Counsel and Andrew Bock.
They were precursors to the Melbourne City Council's Moving Galleries project which published poetry and fine art inside trains and trams in 2007.
